| Chi Kung
or Qi Gong is a Chinese term covering a wide spectrum
of energy cultivations. Chi refers to the invisible
life energy and Kung is the achievement through constant
practice.
Cultivation involves co-ordination of mind intent,
breathing and posture, both moving and still.......
and this is Chi Kung of which there are many.
The two main classifications are internal (soft) and
external (hard). Tai Chi is a soft style whereas Kung
Fu is a hard style.
Chi Kung is believed to have originated in prehistoric
China evolving first as a medical practice, then a spiritual
practice and finally as a martial art. Methods usually
involve standing or sitting meditations that move Chi
(energy) through areas of the body to provide a range
of benefits to the mind body system and utilize the
same principles as Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Those who practice on a daily basis have a longer more
active life and their health potential increases considerably
and often dramatically. Where other forms of exercise
tend to dissipate energy, Chi Kung combined with Tai
Chi accumulates energy thus providing a feeling of refreshment.
It creates balance, flexibility, calmness and well-being
as it integrates the mind body system.
My serious interest in martial arts began in 1971 and
the longer I study, the more depth I discover there
is. I do not feel that mastery will ever be on my horizon
and I teach on the understanding that I will always
be a lifelong student of martial arts.
